HALL OF FAME
Lake Geneva Yacht Club's legendary member, Buddy Melges, has recently been named to the
America's Cup Hall of Fame and honored at a ceremony at the New York Yacht Club.
Buddy competed in the America's Cup in 1986 as helmsman of Heart of America,
and again in 1992 as helmsman of the winning American entry, A3. Official induction
ceremonies will be held later this year on the Isle of Wight, the site of the first
America's Cup competition in 1851.
CLUB OF THE YEAR
The LGYC was selected Yacht Club of the Year by the Inland Lakes Yachting Association,
making Geneva the first two-time winner of this award.
In addition, our own Suzi Reese was named ILYA Member of the Year, actually being referred to as Member of the Decade.

GENEVA SAILORS FAIR WELL IN BIG X ILYA FLEET
Geneva's Nathan Quist and Davis Porter sailing "Flat Out" captured 2nd overall in the 71 boat Senior fleet at the
Class X ILYA Championship hosted by the Lake Geneva Yacht Club July 26-28. Their performance included a win in race 3.
Also in the top ten were Corbett and Clifford Porter in 6th.
Patrick Doran and Danny Hodgman, sailing "Backdraft", fininshed 10th in the 65 boat Junior fleet and had a 2nd in race 4.

BURDICK TOPS 71 BOAT FLEET
Sailing V45, local pro Andy Burdick logged 5 top 10 finishes on his way to the 2001 Class C National Championship.
Regatta chairman Art Larson was the next best fininshing local, placing 14th in the 71 boat fleet.
The regatta was hosted by the Lake Geneva Yacht Club June 14-16.

SPRING E REGATTA ATTRACTS 45
The annual LGYC Spring E Regatta, sailed on May 19-20, attracted 45 competitors from across the county,
who were treated to beautiful Lake Geneva conditions. Art Brereton, sailing with Harry Melges III and
Ryan Fitzgerald topped the competitive fleet. Six Geneva boats finished in the top 10.

LASERS SAIL MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND
The 2001 version of the annual LGYC Mother's Day Laser Regatta, held May 12, attracted 24 boats.
Mark Kastel, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, captured top honors, with LGYC sailors Vincent Porter and Erich Schloemer following closely
in 2nd and 3rd respectively. RESULTS
VINCENT AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT
Building on his earlier successes, Vincent Porter has continued to travel the country, demonstrating his Laser skills at numerous
major regattas. Most notable among these were the Smythe (Jr. Single Handed Championships) semi-finals in Traverse City, MI where
Vincent won every race, a 3rd at the Junior Olympics in Annapolis in June, a 3rd at the O'Day (US Sailing Single Handed Championships)
at St. Francis in San Francisco, and 2nd at the Laser Radial North Americans also at St. Francis.
GENEVA J24 ONE SPEEDY WABBIT
After winning Geneva's 43 boat J24 Regatta last fall, Ron Bjurstrom's "J Rabbitte" team won the J24 Great
Lakes Spring Championship hosted by the Muskegon Yacht Club May 19-20. They followed that performance with
a 3rd (1 point behind the two boats tied for first) at the J24 District 15 Championships in Milwaukee August 4-5.
Ted Hatch and crew on "Salted" also sailed very well at the Districts, capturing 7th overall.
BLACK TIE SUCCESS
Geneva sailors were highly successful at the 2001 Black Tie Regatta held at the Rush Creek Yacht Club in Dallas Texas.
Wendell Sherry with Erich Schloemer on board topped the E Scow fleet, winning 3 of 5 races.
Ron Schloemer finished second in the M20 fleet.
Geneva had 3 boats in the top 10 of the 31 boat C fleet, including Andy Burdick in 2nd, Patrick Lynch in 4th and
Michael Lynch in 10th place.
GENEVA SAILORS DOMINATE MELGES 24 CLASS
Harry Melges III won 5 of 8 races and the Melges 24 Midwinter Championship held during this year's Key West Race Week in January.
Brian Porter's "Full Throttle" team - with brother John, Dave Navin, and Andy Burdick - who won this prestigious and highly competitive
event the last two years, placed second.
Brian also finished second in the Melges 24 World Championship held last September in La Rochelle, France.
Harry followed his stunning Key West performance by winning 5 of 7 races and the class at the 2001 SORC in Miami.

ICEBOAT ACTION
The 2001 International Skeeter Association Regatta was held on Geneva Lake March 2-4.
Among the LGYC members competing, Buddy Melges won the A Skeeter class and Steve Schalk won the B Skeeter class
with George Beukema second.
Buddy also successfully defended the Hearst and Stuart trophies sailed for in the big stern-steering ice boats.

LGYC HOSTS BIG INLAND 2000
The LGYC hosted the 2000 ILYA Championships Regatta, Aug 13-23.
